Apartheid in South Africa comes to an end
In a referendum, 68.7% of white South Africans voted for an abolishment of racial segregation in the country.
Sixteen year old Patrick is captured by Irish pirates from his home in Great Britain and taken as a slave to Ireland (traditional date), where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. After becoming a cleric, he returned to northern and western Ireland. In later life, he served as a bishop, and by the seventh century, he come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland.
