2017:

The Conservative Brexit government said to parliament “we don’t have a clue what will happen if you vote for Brexit – but vote for it anyway.” And it did.

Prime Minister Theresa May finally won her long and frustrating Parliamentary battle to trigger the Article 50 exit notice on her terms……………..(off with her head?!)

1991:

The Birmingham Six walk free from jail after their convictions for the murder of 21 people in two pubs are quashed by the Court of Appeal.   “For 16 and a half years we have been used as political scapegoats. The police told us from the start they knew we hadn’t done it. They didn’t care who had done it.”

1961:

The leaders of Germany and Israel meet for the first time 15 years after the end of World War II. West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion met at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

1910:

The largest accidental oil spill in history.The spill, in California, lasted 18 months, and 9 million barrels of crude oil were released. When drilling started, the Lakeview Oil Company expected natural gas and a small amount of oil. Instead, there was a large blowout which overloaded storage tanks.[2]

1879:

Albert Einstein, the most influential physicist of the 20th century was born.
He developed his special theory of relativity in response to problems he saw with Newtonian mechanics. His mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2 has been called the “the world’s most famous equation”.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921 and later warned President Roosevelt of the dangers of bombs being developed, later protesting against their use as weapons.
